London Cancer Hub, strategic vision.

Client: Institute of Cancer Research
Date: 2023
Services: Research and vision

Future Places Studio were commissioned to work with the Institute of Cancer Research to develop a vision and series of strategic principles to inform the development of the London Cancer Hub.

The end product is a pragmatic and aspirational strategic vision that can be used to communicate ICR’s ambitions for the site, and function as the foundation for a future masterplan development brief. Specifically:

  1. Articulate the needs and desires of ICR in a succinct report that can be used to communicate the strategic vision more widely and build consensus amongst internal and external stakeholders.

  2. Establishing key principles now so that they can be baked into the London Cancer Hub now and not just when the site is being developed / is developed.

  3. Underpin the brief for the masterplan, which can feed into ICR's tender documentation at the procurement stage to clearly set out the key criteria for the commission upfront, and ensure that the right consortium is selected for the job.

  4. Developing the masterplan brief helping ICR save valuable time and resources once the design team has been commissioned, as it will help steer the masterplan process towards an already agreed vision without the need to incorporate a potentially lengthy fact finding and brief setting stage at the start of the masterplan project.
